Solaris 10 sendmail: My unqualified host name sleeping for retry

Posted in Solaris at 10:40 am by alessiodini

Today on every system where i login i obtain this boring message:

Apr 6 11:40:36 system01 sendmail[1632]: [ID 702911 mail.crit] My unqualified host name (system01) unknown; sleeping for retry
Apr 6 11:40:36 system01 sendmail[1630]: [ID 702911 mail.crit] My unqualified host name (system01) unknown; sleeping for retry

This is due to check-hostname command , as follow:

# type check-hostname
check-hostname is hashed (/usr/sbin/check-hostname)

# check-hostname
Hostname system01 could not be fully qualified.
We recommend changing the /etc/hosts entry:

x.x.x.x system01 loghost

to:

x.x.x.x system01 system01.pick.some.domain loghost
