Sun Cluster & HA Oracle: Auto_bkp_end flag

Posted in Sun Cluster at 4:25 pm by alessiodini

Today i worked with Gianluca on a HA Oracle issue.
The customer told us that Sun Cluster did a shutdown abort on active Oracle instance and he wanted know why.
After some analysis we found:

– someone did a resource group switch
– during this switch , the resource group tried to put offline oracle_server resource , without success. In this situation it was active an hot backup and the property’s resource Auto_end_bkp was to False value.
Sun Cluster did not know that “Hot backup” was running and it tried to shutdown first with “shutdown immediate”.
This was not permitted by Oracle and the Cluster did shutdown abort.

The solution is to put Auto_end_bkp flag at True value.
Next time cluster will wait the Hot Backup.
